Replace the seal

Changer le joint

The gasket provides the thermal seal for your EGG. It is heat-resistant up to 500°C (932°F) and lasts for years, but will eventually wear out.

Tools: 3/8" ratchet with extension; 13 mm deep socket or wrench; 11 mm deep socket or wrench. If the EGG is in a Nest: 10 mm wrench and Phillips screwdriver.

1. Remove the dome. With the dome open, remove the springs on both sides. With the dome closed, unscrew the nuts from the bands and hinges, then carefully remove the dome.

2. Scrape and clean. Place the dome upside down on a towel. Pull off the old gasket, scrape off any residue with a utility knife, and finish with coarse-grit sandpaper. Wipe clean with white spirit and let dry.

3. Apply the new gasket. Start at the back left and maintain alignment all the way around. Rub to ensure it sticks well. Cut the end: a slight overlap is better than a gasket that is too short. Repeat for the base.

4. Realign. Replace the dome and reattach the bands and hinges without tightening. Perfectly align the dome and base, then tighten.

5. Check. Replace the springs, close, and verify that there are no gaps around the rim.
