The metal parts of your EGG work during every cook: the steel expands with heat and contracts as it cools. Regular checks keep them perfectly adjusted.
- Tighten the hardware one month after assembly. Check that all bolts and nuts installed during assembly are still tight, then repeat this check regularly, especially if you move your EGG often.
- Maintain the hinge. With heat, its moving parts become rough and the bolts may loosen. Tighten them if necessary, check the position of the bands (see the manual), and spray a little silicone spray or WD-40 a few times a year, on both the hinge and the bottom draft door.
- The rEGGulator does not need to be seasoned. It is made of cast iron with an anti-rust coating and a silicone handle, which seasoning would damage. If it becomes dull, apply a little vegetable oil while it is still warm.
- Maintain the dual-function metal cap once or twice a year. Heat the EGG to 250°C and brush off any rust. Install the convEGGtor, a drip pan, and the stainless steel grid, place the cap on the grid, and heat for 10 minutes. Oil it with vegetable oil, then heat for another 30 minutes.
- Clean the stand with mild soap and water from time to time, and tighten its nuts if it is moved often.
- Cover your EGG once it has cooled down, if it is not under shelter.
